Atlanta-based content creator Rachel Jenkins is no stranger to growth. From the process of evolving from fashion blogging to finding new creative earnest behind the camera, the journey of Jenkin’s creative career path is one full of uniqueness, transformative broadening, and a passion for personal style.
SGC: Hey Rachel! Tell us a little bit about who you are and where you are based out of?
Rachel: Hi! I’m Peek. Jk.. Rach, Rachel. Creator, over eater and thinker, fashion/dog lover and Breaking Bad enthusiast based in North Atlanta (Buckhead).
SGC: Your instagram handle, @peekintochic, offers viewers a true “peek” into your personal lifestyle, how do you feel your name encompasses your originality?
Rachel: When I launched my blog/brand almost 2 years ago (wow) I described @peekintochic as a peek into my life, the things I love and personal journey of self love and self expression through clothes and fashion. I think a lot of people feel like their online image has to be one thing or they can only be known for one “niche.” The fact that the name is “fashion bloggery”...but covers other passion points of mine in a genuine way encompasses originality to me.
SGC: How has your creative process changed since the beginning of your fashion blog?
Rachel: [My blog] may make a return, but right now that is currently not where my focus is. I found a new passion point of creative direction + being behind the camera back in February through a work project. Always thought I wanted to be a fashion “influencer” or blogger in front of the camera, but sis is #evolving.
SGC: So being behind the camera has given you a new passion to follow, how has turning your focus more towards creative direction helped you evolve your career?
Rachel: It has helped me look at creative concepts holistically, not just the finished product or one part of the process. From initial [creative] concepting to implementing strategy, I’ve learned and grown a lot and that’s all I aspire to do. Learn and grow.
SGC: How do you feel your office work style and personal street style meet?
Rachel: Ohh that’s tough. I feel like they are completely different. I work a 9-5 corporate job, so my personal street style doesn’t always show in the office, but at events or shoot days it pops out more. If anything, my jewelry/shoe choice will always reflect my personal style in any setting.
SGC: How do you feel the background of Atlanta play a role in your style journey?
Rachel: The diversity and energy of Atlanta play a role in my style journey. This city is full of inspiration.
SGC: If you scroll through your Instagram feed, viewers are given a taste of the Atlanta food scene: What are your go-to local eats?
Rachel: Anything by Ford Fry! Period. The end. Lol.
SGC: Where do you get inspiration for your style?
